Frequently Asked Questions

To reserve a boat, you must book and pay online. We do not take bookings over the phone or via email. Online reservations must be made at least 2 hours before the appointment time and a maximum of 2 weeks in advance.

Please note that we have more boats than are listed online to accommodate visitors without an appointment.

Only one boat can be reserved at a time, however once you save your personal information, the following bookings require only a few clicks.

To avoid overbooking, each boat has its own schedule and is treated like an employee on a schedule (thus the words "Equipe" when booking a boat). Unfortunately, this means multiple boat bookings must be done one at a time.

To speed up the process, save your information and the additional boats will only take a few clicks.

Refunds are allowed provided you give us 24 hours notice by email. Due to the fact that credit card companies no longer refund the 5% transaction fee, cancellations will only be refunded 95% of the original transaction amount for all payments made via credit card. Refunds due to breakage or cancellation on the part of H2O Adventures will be refunded in full.

Please reply to your confirmation message and include the last four digits of the credit card used in the transaction.

Refunds are also given in the case of breakage not the fault of the client or severe weather (Severe weather includes heavy rain during the booking time, winds in excess of 30km/h or temperature below 15 degrees Celsius.)
Should you need to cancel within 24 hours, a credit for a future booking will be offered.

No refunds are offered in the case of no-shows.

We are open every day, including holidays, unless there is persistent bad weather.

You must have a valid government appointed photo ID to rent a boat and be at least 18 years old.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult but there is no age minimum.

Clients 16-17 years must have a parent sign the waiver but may take non-motorised boat unaccompanied.

Electric boat (License, driver, minimum age)

Our electric boats are easy to drive and do not require any special license. A temporary navigation permit is provided on arrival after we have explained the rules to follow.

As with any rental, valid government issued photo ID is required to rent the boat. The driver must be at least 18 years old.

These are not speed boats! They are set to go a maximum of 6 knots (the maximum speed permitted on the canal). If you are looking for Jetskis, try Wetset Montreal.

The Lachine Canal is open to the public but our centre is reserved for paying customers. Contact Parks Canada for canal permits and access points.

Yes as long as they are well behaved and pose no threat to other clients. Dogs must be leashed and any mess must be picked up by the pet owner.

During severe rainfall, the water from the streets overwhelms the water filtration system and a overflow is triggered in different waterways around the city, including the Rockfield Overflow located near Angrinion street on the Lachine Canal.

When this occurs, Parks Canada restricts the usage of the Canal as a precautions, forbidding the use of non-motorised boats for a period of 72 hours.

Historically, the water quality in the section occupied by H2O Adventures in the Canal, between locks 3 and 4, has remained of "Good" quality or better during these episodes. For more on water quality status in the canal follow @canalstatus on X (previously Twitter).

No, our boats must remain on the Canal at all times.

More specifically, they must remain between the Saint-Gabriel and Côte-Saint-Paul locks. Kayakers have the right to port the locks but must still stay on the Canal. It is extremely dangerous, and therefore prohibited, to go to the Old Port.

Yes! We supply everything you need to go on the boat. You are in charge of your own sunscreen and/or snacks and (non-alcoholic) drinks. You are welcome to bring your own life jacket if you like.

We are in the Lachine Canal Historic Park on the south side of the Lachine Canal, just east of the Atwater pedestrian bridge, and west of the Charlevoix bridge. Enter the Park from Thomas-Keefer and St-Patrick, the corner of Charlevoix and St-Patrick or by the bridge from the Market.

Our location is not visible from St-Patrick Street. We are located behind the Walter Condo on Atwater at 2727 St-Patrick.

There is free parking along St-Patrick Street and on Thomas-Keefer and Charlevoix streets. You can also use the paid parking lot at the Atwater Market on busy days
